The Karnataka government on Friday banned the usage of drinking water to wash cars, maintain gardens and fountains, among other activities.
The ongoing water crisis in Bengaluru took another turn, with the Karnataka government on Friday banning the usage of drinking water for various purposes, including washing of cars, gardening, construction and maintenance. The Karnataka Water Supply and Sewerage Board (KWSSB) also decided to impose a fine of ₹5,000 for violations on the same.
This comes after the Bengaluru city administration on Thursday fixed the price caps for water tankers based on the quantity of water and the distance of delivery place.
The city is grappling with a severe water shortage even at the onset of summer, which has left residents scavenging for the major source of life, even as there are few tankers for relief. More than 3000 borewells across the city have also dried up, and low rainfall this past monsoon season has resulted in a huge deficiency.
